Advisory: Good Trouble Lives On National Day of Action Press Conference

More than 1,600 Good Trouble Lives On Events Confirmed Nationwide, Hundreds of Thousands Expected to Attend

WASHINGTON D.C. – Reporters and news outlets are invited to attend a virtual press conference on July 15 (1:30 pm to 2:00 pm ET) to preview Good Trouble Lives On: John Lewis National Day of Action on July 17.

National organizers will share a few words on the legacy of the late Civil Rights leader and former U.S. Congressman John Lewis, what participants can expect at their local events this year and why Americans are engaging in this day of action to make ‘Good Trouble.’ There will be a few minutes for reporter questions at the end of the press conference.

The call will be moderated by Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen.

Speakers will include:

  • Barbara Arnwine and Daryl Jones, co-leaders of Transformative Justice Coalition

  • Celina Stewart, chief executive officer of League of Women Voters

  • Leslie Proll, senior director, Voting Rights Program at the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights  (tentative)

  • Allison Pulliam, co-director of Declaration for American Democracy Coalition

  • April Albright, legal director and chief of staff of Black Voters Matter

  • Betty Magness, exec. vice president of the League of Women Voters Chicago

  • Helen Butler, exec. director of Georgia Coalition for the Peoples’ Agenda

  • Carl Snowden, civil rights consultant for Carl Snowden and Associates

  • Lynda Davis, organizer, Showing Up for Racial Justice Annapolis and Anne Arundel Co.

The fifth annual John Lewis National Day of Action will far surpass the event count from previous years. More than 1,600 events across the United States are scheduled to engage in “Good Trouble Lives On” on July 17. The flagship event will be held in Chicago, IL, with additional anchor events to be held in Atlanta, GA, St. Louis, MO, Annapolis, MD and Oakland, CA.

In memory of John Lewis, we will take to the streets, courthouses and community spaces to carry forward his fight for justice, voting rights and dignity for all. We demand an end to:

  1. The Trump administration’s extreme crackdown on our civil rights – from our right to vote to our right to protest and speak freely.

  2. Politicians and lawmakers targeting Black and Brown Americans, immigrants, trans people and others with hateful, dangerous policies.

  3. The wealthy and well-connected slashing programs that working people rely on – including Medicaid, SNAP, and Social Security – to line their own pockets.
